Our history of sustainable travel

More than 15 years of making a difference

We care about travel. After all, we're travellers, just like you. So, in 2008, we not only established our not-for-profit foundation, TreadRight, we also asked ourselves, how do we promote sustainability in travel? How do we champion responsible travel and set an example? We saw that it was our duty to make a positive impact on the people we visit, the wildlife we find, and the planet we call home. We address this in two ways: through our 5-year How We Tread Right sustainability strategy, and through the work of the TreadRight Foundation.

How We Tread Right

Our 5-year How We Tread Right sustainability strategy is based on 11 measurable goals, anchored to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals. These address the issues of climate change, sustainable food production, waste reduction, travel experiences, diversity and inclusion, and wildlife.

Climate Action

We've said no to "more stuff"

Last year, we made a commitment to say goodbye to all branded merchandise we produce that's designed to be given away after discovering it produced an additional 6.5 million car-driven miles in equivalent carbon emissions. Instead we'll be donating to nature-based solutions projects.
